Lore
Lore
SOS contains content that is lore-related. Therefore, is vital to the lore of BEAR (Alpha) or BEAR*.

We are the light, of the abyss.
SOS's description.

SOS, also known as Sub-Optimal-Station, is a map that debuts in BEAR (Alpha). SOS released on July 20th, 2020 created by EggscrutiatingIy, and remade by macabreroses with the final hour. ft. happy terror.. SOS has a total of 4 puzzles, and 5 gamemodes.

Layout

SOS is placed inside of a submarine. It has many long corridors and dark rooms. The player can also find the reactor to the submarine in this map. The map is very dark and has many secret notes scattered about. It also contains a data room, cafeteria, and several living quarters.

Puzzles

Wire Puzzles

SOS includes one through two wire puzzles in the map. The locations of the wire puzzles are inside the room next to the vent passageway and a color code location and in the room with storage racks.

Cheese Altar

SOS includes a Cheese Altar in the map, alongside with the cheese used to complete the puzzle. The location of the cheese is in Captain Ghee's room, on the office desk. Meanwhile, the Cheese Altar is in the reactor room.

Color Code

SOS includes a Color Code in the map, alongside with the code used to complete the puzzle. The locations of the code are on a wall next to wire puzzle #1, on the second floor hallway, right next to the Bear spawn, and on a wall on the first floor hallway, next to the bear spawn. Meanwhile, the Color Code is at the lunchroom, near the survivor spawn.

Audio

At the date room, there used to be a Morse code playing, and it has a small Easter egg at one of the left entrance.

Description

Audio

Inside the data room, there used to be a morse code playing.

The translation of the code is "Dance in the dojo till the waffle appears".

It has nothing do to with the lore and it's a joke.

On the shorter exit of the left side of the data room, a button can be activated.

Once pressed, the player will hear the hulk machine meme audio.

The SOS incident

Throughout the map, the player can find several notes on walls. According to the non-canonical backstory to Unwell, Bear was slowly taking over the world and world leaders had to evacuate to SOS. Sam dug a tunnel and helped the survivors, but a malicious entity, known as The Unwell, came in and controlled Sam. Sam was forced to kill every single person inside the area. It is unknown when and for how long the SOS incident occurs.

Day 2: Sand started to overflow the main entrance so we resorted to escaping out the back, only to find the doors were sealed shut. Might need to fix the generator
  • You can find the message near one of the doors that got blocked by the sand.
  • It is unknown what happened in day 1, but it appears that the submarine was damaged and got stuck on the ocean floor, trapping everyone inside.
  • The main entrance was on floor 2 (on the top of the door in the reactor room, you can see the word 'welcome!' in 5 different languages: English, Chinese, Russian, German and Spanish).
  • There were 31 people in the submarine, 32 if you count the backrooms hallway (but it is uncertain if there was another room in there).
Day 9: Some of the doors opened today. still no exit. We've got enough supplies to last us a couple months, lets hope it lasts.
  • 9 days after the incident, they managed to fix the generator and open some doors, but they were still trapped.
  • They still got supplies that will last them for months.
Day 13: We've been livin under the same rock for days now. flippin thing won't leave. Constantly shouts 'Prepare to die' but I refuse to die to some, thing.
  • 4 days later, it appears that (possibly) Sam was outside the submarine, trying to get in while constantly shouting 'prepare to die'.
  • You can also find the phrase 'prepare to die' on one of the walls inside the submarine.
Day 32: X came today, demanded more cheese. We're starting to run low on materials, lets hope we can get out of here soon enough.
  • 19 days later, X was demanding more cheese from them, they started to run low on materials.
  • Inside Unwell's secret room, you can find the phrase 'give me the cheese'(x8), so it's possible that Unwell is X.
Day 990: Some bear thing broke in, didn't harm us though, we hope it ain't anything lethal. Then again it did bring supplies so. who knows at this point.
  • Day 990 doesn't make any sense - according to day 9, the supplies could only last for months, day 99 would make sense since it's only 67 days (around 2 months) instead of 958 days (around 2 and a half years).
    • At this point they were possibly going through Dyschronometria- when an individual cannot accurately estimate the amount of time that has passed (i.e., distorted time perception).
  • Sam broke into the submarine but didn't harm them. It brought them supplies through his tunnel.
I don't know what day is it, ran out of cheese, this charade won't keep for much longer
  • Unknown days after the last message, it appears that they ran out of cheese for X, but X didn't find out yet.
The monster will destroy us all
  • Unknown days after they ran out of cheese, X (Unwell) discovered that they ran out of cheese, so it started to control Sam, and Sam started to kill everyone on the submarine.
  • It appears the person who wrote this was hiding from Sam since you can find the note through a secret wall.
  • It is uncertain if the note was referencing to Sam or Unwell.
  • Another phrase you can find in Unwell's room is: 'I'll replace the cheese with your souls.' This could've been the part when it discovered they ran out of cheese.
  • It is possible that the survivors survived the SOS incident and managed to escape through Sam's tunnel.

Trivia

  • This map has been considered the hardest map in BEAR (Alpha) due to the hallways being very tight and the layout fairly confusing for new players.
  • The Morse code audio in the storage room was removed due to Roblox removing audios.
  • The original video of the hulk machine meme can be found here.
  • There is a message above a skull that is presumably either in Base64 or Base32. Most likely the former.
