Malbear is a Bear boss and skin that debuts in BEAR (Alpha) and BEAR*. Malbear released on March 9th, 2020 in BEAR (Alpha), and on July 26th, 2024 in BEAR*, created by PapaDoomsday. Malbear can be obtained by owning the @ badge in BEAR (Alpha), and by owning the X_X badge in BEAR*. As of February 8th, 2022, Malbear is unobtainable in BEAR (Alpha) due to Thomas Racing getting taken down, unless you already owned the Cheeda's magic badge.

Appearance

General

Malbear consists of multiple Window 98 tabs and various images that form the shape of a Bear.

Star

In BEAR*, nothing changes physically about Malbear as a whole, except for removing the Flaming Hot Website and for the fact that the entirety of the skin is 3D.

How to Defeat Malbear in BEAR*

In the first phase, go on rocks and start shooting Malbear and the enemies. It's recommended to have more players help you. Once the rocks sink, go to another rock. If Malbear uses the bitcoin or head throw at you, move quickly away from the rock and go back. Try to collect the green bitcoins as much as you can, these heal 20hp. Once you get to phase 2, to avoid the lasers just stay on the rocks or the stairs of the portals.

Attacks

Phase 1

• Stomp: Malbear will stomp on the ground revealing a red circle. Touching the attack will deal 15 damage.

• Mouth: Malbear will throw his mouth. If the mouth bites the player, he will spit them out, flinging the player across the map.

• Bitcoin: Malbear will spit out Bitcoins at the player. Each coin does 10-20 damage. He will also shoot 1 Green Bitcoin every attack, touching the green Bitcoin will give about 20-30 hp.

• Head: Malbear will throw their head at the player and if the head hits the player, it would deal 25 damage. If the player shoots the head while it's decapitated, it will deal 3 times the damage. It will then connect back to the torso.

Phase 2

• Lasers: Malbear will spawn lasers on the ground. If the player touches the lasers, it will deal 15 damage each.

Trivia

• Malbear was submitted on January 2nd, 2020.
• In behind the screen of which the online plain, at the end of the hallway, and in Haunted Mansion, after clicking a button. Malbear's voice can be heard saying: "You are the 1,000th Visitor, come here to win a prize!" a bit more sped up
• Malbear's jingle originates from the AOL Desktop 9.6 (US). Specifically, the instant message sound.
• Malbear was submitted with seven voice lines, but only three were added.
• Originally, Papadoomsday wanted Malbear to have a voiceline that said, "I'm not a virus YOU'RE a virus", but he ended up not doing it.
  • This was later used for the BEAR* version.
• Malbear's voice was made from selecting random voice options on the text-to-speech program Voice forge.
  • After voiceforge was put into mobile only, Malbear's new voices are from MAC OS 1998, Online Microsoft Sam and other Text to Speech programs.
• Malbear's is a portmanteau of the words, "Malware" and "Bear."
• Malbear was originally called "Cybear".
• Malbear has been referenced multiple times in before their second debut in BEAR*.
  • When the Wetlands Update released, Unknown Wetlands included a secret room that featured four wooden cutouts with Malbear on them, accompanied by two floating text stating, "MALBEAR CUBE" and "BOTTOM TEXT".
    • The cutouts and the texts were removed with the Valentine's Day 2022 event.
  • When the Valentine's Day 2022 event released, there was a store in the lobby that had a computer that had Malbear's eyes on the screen.
    • When the Valentine's Day 2023 pt. 2 event released, the map, A Familiar Place, reuses the Valentine's Day 2022 lobby (with some changes), which still features Malbear's eyes on the computer screen in the store.
• Around January 2024, Malbear's eyes can be briefly seen replacing the B.O.B. eyes in the road tunnel. This only happens during its first blink.
• One of the popups appearing in the boss fight has a binary code that translates to: "GOD PLEASE HELP ME"
• In BEAR*, Malbear has a unique dance animation when using "/e dance", where they T-Pose and start rotating left and right and moving forward and backwards while their head moves freely.
• The Mouth attack that Malbear does is a reference to GIF of Malbear pulling out a cupcake and saying, "THE NEW!" Before their mouth comes off and eat the cupcake. The GIF is also a reference to a Dairy Queen commercial doing the ditto.
• In BEAR*, there is another version of Malbear that is exclusive to PapaDoomsday. This version is identical to the one from BEAR (Alpha) and it has been in the game since its release.
• Malbear's name was first thought of by bear contributor Zombie_Pioneer.
• [1] Around April 2020 before BEAR*, there was a hoax about a Malbear boss battle coming to BEAR (Alpha).
  • It is possible that this hoax was the inspiration for mischief.exe.
